F-Type Seats

Adding extra adjustment

The F Type can come with some really nice seats. These are the relatively basic 6 way performance seats with no memory but do have heating and cooling. I believe they were part of a pack of options available in the UK around 2022 and so are relatively common. The adjustment is slightly strange in that raising the height mainly effects the back of the seat base resulting in less support of your legs the more its moved up. Being on the short side of average this probably affects me more than the average driver. The 12 way seats have an additional control for the front of the seat.

Looking under the seat for treasure I could see an unattached motor preinstalled just in case these were going on a 12 way system. The motors have 4 connections. 2 for 12V power and 2 for the position sensor for the memory function. While it would be nice to find a proper connector to plug in the best I could do was use some 2.8mm female spade connectors directly over the 12V connectors on the motor. Now applying 12 and ground in one direction raises the front of the seat and reversing the polarity lowers it. In the future I might wire up a remote relay to control this but at the moment I have just left both seats in a comfortable position.

Small repair job to leather

One of the first little jobs I did with the car was to tidy the front drivers seat bolster. I have no idea how it happened in the preceding 3 1/2 years before I had the car but this piece was badly cracked and damaged with some small parts of the leather lost. After reading some reviews on Amazon for leather repair products I was brave enough to give this a try myself.

This is one of those jobs where its looks worse before it can be better. After attacking the seat with sandpaper the filler went in. Then as no black is really back it was time to work out what other colour to add. The kit is really helpful here and a few drops of blue was all that was needed.

Its not a professional level repair but its good enough that I don’t notice it.
